The good news is that the headache is practically all gone. :) On the plus side it gave me an excuse to sleep in until 10 this morning.

Now, I'm going to try this progress meter thing in hopes it will give me encouragement to turn one of these three stories into the first draft of a novel by the time I fly back from England. I think I can think up good plots, it's just filling it in past the bare bones that's the problem. Honestly, sometimes I wonder if I shouldn't try my hand at screenplays instead.

Echoes- My modern day/past entwining story. Now if only I could decide whether to set it in England or America...

No Quarter Given- My attempt to twist "When Theo Met Andrew" into something original.

Friendly Fire: The two men meet in a molly house and engage in anonymous sex story. This will definitely be a short story.

Love Once Lost- The story I used my rp character to write. I love Thomas, I really do.

I can't afford to donate much, but it's for a good cause, whether the reason for it happens or not.

Spoilers for COE, though if you haven't seen it, it's not my fault... )

Besides, it helps me make a few cents! They paid me $3.28 up front and for every 1000 page views or so, I get $1.50.

Yes, that says genealog. No I can't change the rather embarrassing error. Let's all pretend I was doing a creative play on words and was being clever, yes? Genea...log. Get it?

I'll be presenting this at roughly noon today. Borrowed the general idea of it from a Horatio Hornblower fic.

This is in regards to the Torchwood fandom, which is what I mainly read now considering how little navyboys fic we're getting lately, but this is probably a pan-fandom problem.

Okay, so I did the whole, put the ipod on shuffle thing and then write something by the time the song ends. There are supposed to be ten, but I've got too much stuff to do right now (Very bad stress right now.) to bother with a whole ten. I did cheat in that I rearranged the songs so that this resembled a story more than just five random drabbles.

(Author's Note: Merry Christmas! This is sappy, and not my best work, but darn it, I wanted to do one of the prompts before Christmas! At this rate the Thomas/Andrew Christmas story I'm writing will be a Christmas 2009 story.)

Currently I'm at work with very little to do. We have no patrons and my coworkers and I don't feel like doing much either. We ended up covertly watching a movie earlier today that I'd brought.

I began going back through my old fics last night and I was very pleasantly surprised that I actually didn't immediately want to delete everything. It was nice remembering a time when ideas and just the right phrasing came so easily, not to mention the lovely conversations and comments I received.

Remember the wedding bed fic? Or the mpreg? ;) I really hope to return to writing once my finals are done as of tomorrow afternoon. I need to work on some of my original stuff, but I really want to try to get inspiration for a little gillington, or any of my original pairings (Is that self-fanfic? We'll call it character building, lol.). If anyone wants to give me a prompt and a pairing or several prompts, comment and I'll see what I can do. Any pairing, original or not, is game.

Think of it as a mini-Christmas gift for everyone that I cannot buy real gifts for.

I think I'm going to buy Frost Fair by Erastes with my next paycheck. I'd like to buy it now, but I don't need to spend what money I have on that and I'll get paid next week anyway. It will be a mini-Christmas gift/one more semester to go!present for me.

The question is...E-book or paper?

The E-book is nearly half the price of the paper book and I'd get it instantly.

I can read the paper book without my computer and I like paper books better.

I'm really having trouble convincing either of my two main characters as to the seriousness of their situation if someone discovers that Edward is a man and that he and Nicholas will be killed if they're caught hving sex with each other.

Confusing? Yep. Still though, I can't get either of them to brood about their relationship as both of them prefer to compartmentalize that until their mission is done.

Example: Nicholas discovers Edward is hard while they're snogging. Edward tells him to continue making out with him as they're still being watched and "we'll talk about it later."

Hopefully I'll figure out what to do about the both of them.

Quote of the day:

Edward snorted. “That man is an idiot and isn’t who we’re looking for.” He sighed. “Or either he’s a damn good actor. What remains is that you can’t challenge every man that wants to be under my skirts.” He closed his eyes in despair at the situation he found himself in. “Don’t ever let me say that again.”

I'm thinking this sentence might be in contention for the opening line:

"I have to pull the laces tighter or you’ll never fit into the dress, sir."

I'm still trying to figure out the characters of Edward and Nicholas and their relationship, but I'm writing again at least. I'm sure this idea has or will have plotholes the size of a black hole, but hey, it's progress. I might, if there's interest, post more excerpts every one in awhile just to get feedback.

Well, in between going to the movies I managed to write 210 words of...something. It's still a little nebulous and ranks and names may change if I continue, but here's what I've got so far:

(Sorry for the lack of a cut. LJ isn't letting me use one today.)

Nicholas shrugged. “I think you’ll find Mr. Rodgers,” he dismissed with a wave of his glass, “That the lack of a maid for one’s wife in this instance can lead to any number of amiable activities.” He paused for a moment and threw the man a smug smile. “Her corset alone...” His voice drifted. “Well, I think you can imagine that for yourself.”

“Indeed,” came the reply, “I can see the advantages.”

Nicholas automatically looked in the direction Rodgers was staring. It was Edward, no Mrs. Fairfax, his wife, chatting with a group of matrons in the corner. And the bastard was staring at her as if she were a prize piece of mutton. How dare the man ogle HIS wife? It was his right to ogle his wife!

Er, his Captain. That’s what he meant. No one else had the right to ogle his Captain!

Nicholas frowned and cursed himself. Wait, that wasn’t right either. Nicholas tossed back the rest of the brandy, relishing the burn of it down his throat. Stupid sod. What the hell was he thinking? Captain Wilson wasn’t owned by him, in any guise, and Nick would certainly be hanged for it if he tried.

Christ, he’d blame it on the liquor…if this hadn’t just been his first glass.

I'm really dodging around the main plot at the moment and writing scenes I'd like to include. It will need heavy editing to work, with both plot and prose, but I'm at twenty percent. I've barely started the sex scene too.

I only managed about 200 words. It was forced out to get there. I don't have good description words, it doesn't flow, there's nothing. It's writing I would think was bad if I'd read it by someone else. I may have to work on something else for awhile.

Actually I need writing therapy. ;)

Eh, 400 words more. Still sucks, but it's progress. They've at least made it up to the room and David has made Richard at least give his first name, which admittedly I'd just thought up last night. I think I may have found a motivation for Richard to want the no name policy, but there are parts of it that I'll need to shift around to make it work.

Close Encounters: The two men meet in a molly house and engage in anonymous sex story.

Don't see a difference since I posted this in May? Don't blame you as I've only added 400 words since then (all of them tonight, most disjointed) and still have no idea where to go from here. I swear I can think up good ideas for stories but filling that idea in isn't something I've managed to do. Part of me just wants to give this stuff to a talented writer and let them do what they want with it as I do want these stories told. (Obviously, I realize this isn't possible.)

I can't even fill in details that would give better ideas of a setting and my descriptions of what character's are doing is the same over and over again. I so envy those people that churn out good books at least once a year whether writing is their full time job or they have another job on top of writing.

Dangerous Ground

Squee!

This isn't a literary review of a book. God knows I had to do enough of those in highschool. However, the book put in enough of a good mood that I want to post something about it:

Dangerous Ground by Josh Lanyon
Loose Id

Now, I shouldn't have spent the money, but after weeks of purely buying things on their practical worth, I decided $4.99 was something I could part with easily enough. Of course, I also don't like e-books. I'm on my computer often enough that there's something particularly satisfying about the feel, the smell, the look of a paperback.

I suppose I also hadn't ever tried a contemporary m/m novel yet, but the excerpt (for I'd been lurking around Lanyon's blog long enough) sucked me in well enough that I decided to forgo my normal anti-ebook status.

And I liked it. Sure, there were points that jarred a bit for being so abrupt, but the tension between the two characters, the danger, and the really smoking hot scene at the mineral baths gave me enough pleasure (No, not THAT kind of pleasure...) that any faults, few as they were, were pretty much forgotten.

It's about 103 pages, a good afternoon read. I finished it in about two hours. :)

And I hate camping too.
